Featuring: Franziska Brunner (Clarinet), Corey Flowers (Classical Guitar), and Sean Thrower (Classical Guitar).

This concert will feature duets featuring the guitar and clarinet, a somewhat rare combination in classical chamber music. According to Corey Flowers, who also teaches music, classical guitar, and rock guitar at 106 West, "We've chosen some familiar favorites ----as well as some not so familiar tunes--to arrange for this ensemble -- that compliment both instruments' [Clarinet and Guitar] tonal and registral characteristics, creating what will hopefully be a unique experience for all."

Guitar duos will close the evening, showcasing works written for two guitars as well as those that were plucked from the classical repertory and arranged for this pairing. With many guitar ensembles, the end goal is to give the impression of a single instrument performing the piece--a difficult task!

Music presented in this concert will span several centuries, ranging from Renaissance to late Romantic, early 20th Century, and perhaps a piece or two written specifically for this occasion."

About the Performers:

Franziska Brunner received her Bachelor’s degree from North Carolina School of the Arts and a Masters from the University of Georgia, both in Clarinet performance. She currently teaches privately and performs with the Athens Tango Project. In the fall she will be returning to UGA to begin a PhD in Musicology.

Corey Flowers is currently working on his third degree at UGA, a DMA in Guitar performance. Along with teaching at 106 West, Corey recently released a digital album with an instrumental rock project, Jet Engine Dragons, and will be performing with this group during the summer.

Sean Thrower has taught guitar through his own studio and through several music stores for the last seven years.  He performs regularly as a solo musician, with a small combo or band, or with his group the Georgia Guitar Duo.  Currently, Sean is in pursuit of a Master’s degree in classical guitar performance at UGA.
